Physical chemistry - Master Programme

Programme 120 credits - 2 years - Master's degree

Through the perspective of physical chemistry, you will obtain a deep understanding of fundamental mechanisms at the molecular level. You will investigate chemical phenomena and industrial applications using your knowledge in e.g. quantum mechanics and thermodynamics. The programme prepares you for a career in both academia and industry.

The master's programme in chemistry, physical chemistry (FYKE) covers 120 ETCS credits and aims to provide you with an broad and thorough knowledge of physical and theoretical chemistry, as well as chemical physics, including advanced lab skills and in-depth theoretical understanding. Focus is placed on achieving an unbroken line of understanding, from a description of molecules based on quantum mechanics to complex supramolecular structures, as well as their industrial and biological applications.

The first year you study advanced courses in chemical physics and physical chemistry, such as courses in thermodynamics, spectroscopy and colloid chemistry. During your second year you choose to do either one or two degree projects within physical chemistry that can be carried out at the university or at a company with the relevant research profile.

Program structure for the physical chemistry specialisation

  • Master's degree project 60 credits or
  • Master's degree project 45 credits and optional course/courses comprising 15 credits or
  • Master's degree project 30 credits and optional course/courses comprising 30 credits
